NIHB Counselling for First Nations
and Inuit Peoples

First Nations Counselling and Virtual NIHB Counselling

At Corda Counselling, we are committed to making mental health services accessible to First Nations and Inuit individuals and families throughout Ontario.

As an approved Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) provider, we offer counselling and psychotherapy services to eligible clients. NIHB may cover the cost of counselling, allowing you to access support without paying out of pocket when services are approved.

Whether you are seeking support for anxiety, trauma, grief, addictions, relationships, stress, or other life challenges, we provide a welcoming, confidential, and culturally respectful space. We offer in-person counselling in North Bay, Marathon, and Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, as well as virtual NIHB counselling throughout Ontario.

At Corda Counselling, we believe accessing mental health support should feel welcoming, comfortable, and straightforward. Our goal is to provide services that you connect with that are compassionate, culturally respectful, and client-centred care that recognizes each person's unique experiences, strengths, and needs.

How Do I Get Approved for NIHB Counselling?

Getting started is simple. After an initial phone call with a counsellor to discuss your needs and answer any questions, Corda Counselling can help you navigate the NIHB approval process.

For pre-approval, we will need:

  • Your full legal name

  • Your date of birth

  • Your status or NIHB identification number, as applicable

  • Your contact information

We will use this information to verify eligibility and request any required approval through the NIHB program. Once approval is received, we will contact you to schedule your counselling session. Together, we will explore your goals, discuss what you would like support with, and develop a counselling plan that meets your needs.

Approved counselling sessions are billed directly to NIHB, meaning there is no out-of-pocket cost for services covered under the program. Appointments are available in person or virtually, depending on your location and preferences.

Corda Counselling would like to acknowledge the privilege and honour our team has had to work and live in the traditional land of the Anishnaabe Peoples. We are grateful to live, learn, and work on these lands and honour the ongoing relationship between Indigenous Peoples and their territories. We respectfully acknowledge that our work takes place along the northern shore of Lake Superior on the traditional lands of Netmizaaggamig, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg and Pawgwasheeng First Nations and the Anishnaabe peoples, in the territory of Nipissing First Nation, protected by the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850. We honour their histories, cultures, and contributions to this land.
